Upon thinking one day I couldn’t help but wonder how many business’ prosper for people’s need for speed.
In the beginning, an internet service advertising for Hi-Speed cable access is doubled from what is used to cost in dial-up. Car companies are often known to appeal speed to buyers for a price.(SIDE NOTE: Mrscarrdero and I just recently experienced this when the salesperson stated I owe it to myself to put myself in the "sports" model version of the line of car we were looking at even though I only live 9 miles from my job and 75 miles away from the nearest racetrack). Disney World offers a speed-pass to those patrons who when knowingly visited a crowded amusement park have a valid need to get through the attraction’s lines faster than others-at a price. Even the Thruway Authority has adopted a “me-first” attitude on their highways with their decade old E-ZPass system. Should the need for speed be standard instead of an option? Is it necessary for companies to segregate the poor from the middle class to the rich in order to give speed and elite appearance? When did we become such an impatient society? |

The day the market was flooded with T.V's, Games consoles, whatever - 24 hours are just not enough in the day of 'Mr & Mrs Average' - the advertisments want us to spend more money - on what ? - gadgets; Gadgets to do what ? - to take up our time.
In the time I have lived, bearing in mind that I wasn't exactly born in the centre of a busy metropolis, I have seen this 'urgency' - it invaded the workplace, because 'time is money'; people working cost more money; work faster to make more profits for the companies........... it's a never ending vicious circle... ![]()
