Organ donation (religions, science)

How do you all feel about organ donation ?

A few celebreties were being interviewed on Television, and one subject was that of organ donation. The general feeling was that this is something which we should all consider while we are fit; to put off thinking about this leaves emotional doubts with relatives . Some seemed to have very strong views; they wanted their loved ones burried with all their organs, what do you all think? Is it something you have thought about ? talked over with loved ones?

I haven't really considered it yet myself, but my 18 year old brother is already signed for everything and anything as spare parts.

Hey, I'm gonna be dead, not like I'll need 'em. I think organ donation is something everyone should participate in... I don't really see a valid reason not to.

I find that terribly immature- they're DEAD. They don't need to be buried with their organs- or even at all. There are people who are dying because of these selfish views.

I absoloutely agree with you Jamaesi, but without prior consent from the deceased, what else can be done ?

O.K, so now to the next bit.........

One of the celebs told the story of his brother, who had been declared brain dead. The life support could have been switched off - and the brother have his 'parts' distributed in organ donation. Completely against all expectations, the brother recovered from a very deep coma, and lived for many years after...........

Honestly, I don't know why I didn't sign up to be an organ donor when I got my drivers liscense. I did hear a couple of stories which scared me out of it abit. I heard that alot of hospitals will not make a very good effort to save your life if you are a donor, because of the shortage of organs. Since I have O- blood, I knew if that was true, I would live long if I fell into a comma. I doubt that is true though.
And since I'm going to be cremated, theres not a chance of me comming back to life, so my organs will go to waste. I know my lungs (if asthma does have a part in that) and eyes aren't usable, but I'm pretty sure my kidneys and liver could be used. But my eyes might be usable. If I was blind, I wouldn't mind being severally near sighted. At least I could see.
