Organ donation (religions, science)

Organ donation is against my religion, technically, but being Reform I get to pick what I think is appropriate Jews believe that a dead body should not be cremated or embalmed or otherwise tampered with. I think sometimes the Orthodox rabbis will approve an autopsy if it means saving the lives of other people with the evidence found. But anyways, I'm definitely an organ donor, even though my parents aren't happy with that. I have no qualms with giving away my organs, and I think that it is definitely in accord with Judaism--save lives when possible.

I'm very, very happy to donate everything I have (or will have had, to use the correct tense) to anyone wanting 'em.

Here in Georgia, I got a discount on my last driver's license renewal for selecting to be an organ donor, but I think they dropped it in the last year or 2. Our minister has a bumper sticker "Don't Take Your Organs to Heaven. Heaven Knows We Need Them Here."

Maybe I'm wrong, but if you donate a kidney while you live, don't you have to go to a hospital to get your blood run through a machine so it can be cleaned and filtered? I cant think of what the process is called. I do donate blood though. It only takes a few minutes and it doesn't hurt that much. I did donate plasma for awhile, because you get paid for that, but after two blown viens, and a sore arm because the person poking my arm missed about 10 times, I can say I'm done with tha and going back to blood.

As long as you have one kidney you can still function relatively normally... no dialasis (sp?) machine needed.

I don't think it's immature to call them selfish... that's all it is, selfishness. There's no reason to keep organs in a dead person when someone living needs them.

There is if you think that god told you not to part with them. What would you think if I said "that's very selfish of you to have a gay lover. Men need the women more than you do." You would probably find that very rude, because you think it's natural to have that sort of relationship, and that the best road to take is to follow what is natural, instead of twisting things. People who don't want to donate their organs because of religion think that is the best road to take, because they don't want to twist what God wants of them, and what is consequently "natural," in a sense.

The arrogant part I´ll agree with- but I don´t think this is rude nor arrogant. If you want to keep something you don´t need for absolutely no good reason and allow someone to die- you´re very selfish.

Being gay DOESN´T kill anyone. This isn´t even like comparing apples and oranges, it´s like a banana and a rock.



I also have a problem with a G-d who would let people die when a simple donation of something the previous owner has and no longer needs could save them. I also don´t understand how many religions- a lot of them much older than modern medicine and organ transplants- could have been against something that didn´t even exist when they were formed.

im leaving my body behind, so it can either burn or rot, im not going to be in it

i do have a qestion though? i'm diabetic - will they acceopt my organs, being as i cannot donate blood
