I almost think of a forum as note taking, which of course has no grammar whatsoever.
Do you like to use perfect grammar on forums? |

I try. Although I know I fall short of perfect grammar and spelling all the time. I also try not to judge those who do not use or even attempt to use proper grammar and spelling, but I have to admit it gets a little annoying sometimes when I have to deciper every word of a post to get it's meaning. Sometimes I won't even read or respond to posts written like that.

I believe the purpose of a forum is to communicate ideas... and since the base unit of meaning is a word (and then a sentence), I think people should at least TRY to write clearly.
However, I also believe people should try to write SHORT entries... most people don't have the patience to read through LOOOOONG posts, even though they may have good content. I have written a couple I think are kind of long, but I TRY to keep them to a reasonable length so people will WANT to read.

Indeed, it does rile me when I have to read an unpunctuated, grammatically incorrect post, especially if it is a very long one.
I just don't see the point in not writing correctly if you have the ability to do so, on my site for instance, the amount of users who think it is cool to spell incorrectly and fill their posts with numbers in the middle of work etc etc is starting to annoy me somewhat. It's tolerable, barely ![]() There you have it, from me- if you are capable of it, then show you are, I know I resepct the opinion of someone who comes across as knowing how to write more than that of a horrible looking post full of spelling/grammar/syntax errors.

I don’t care either way. If the post is long and terribly written I’ll pass it up. I’ll give my posts a quick look over before I send it but I’m known for using terrible grammar in a short post to let the Billy Bob in me out to play. I just woke an old ghost thread.

Eh, I write like I speak, so no, not perfect grammar. I'd like to think it's relatively coherent, of course, but beyond that, don't care.

I make a legitimate effort to be grammatically correct in my posts. It does make for a much easier read. Since it has been a long time since I have actually been graded on anything that I write/type, I am certainly not that picky about it. A mistake here and there can sometimes turn out to be quite humorous.

Grammar... not just for kids anymore!
I don't use the prescriptive grammar found in most textbooks, though it is probably quite similar. Instead I use the colloquial internet grammar that has been streamlined to convey thoughts without making you sweat over each and every tilde or ellipse. I write to communicate and in turn to learn. However, I do let the lack of grammar or the presense of numerous miss pelled words to influence my view of a poster. Rambling run-ons are going to be overlooked as I peruse a forum. Long winded people tend to be amorphic with their thoughts and thus make it hard to follow them. I do this for fun... I am not going to work at it.
