I've been overweight for years. Not massively, but a good 30-40 pounds. In this past year, I lost some 20 pounds, through some various reasons. I weight about 215 pounds at 5'11, and I'm still trying to lose that last 20-25 pounds. I've found that one of the best exercises is to play with children. Gods, those kids are crazy! My 12 year old brother brought a bunch of friends over to play snowball games. I went out and played for a while with them, and I was tired out in minutes! How do they do it?!?!? Anyway, does anyone else have weight problems?

Hehehe, I remember my doctor at the time saying I should lose some weight and I got down to 180. Meanwhile, he had been running and lost more and wanted more from me. It was a bit depressing and I've put on more weight in those 20 some-odd years. ( I have jeans in 3 sizes and none of the suits fit). Last edited by Bright-ness' Shadow; 05-06-2005 at 03:33 PM. |

Im 6'5, 270 lbs. According to BMI, I would be severly obese, but what the BMI doesn't consider is that muscle mass is much heavier that fat mass. Im guessing Im about 30-40 pounds of fat mass over-weight. I work out alot, so its difficult to tell if I've lost any fat wieght with a scale since its constantly up and down. Guess Ill know when my wieght problem is done with when I go from 28% body fat to aboput 15%.
I love lifting wieghts and aerobics. I try to get to the gym every day to work out for 1 or 2 hours, then I do about 30 push ups and sit ups in suana at 250 degrees ferienhiet. I get in 20 push ups, sit ups and jumping jacks, 100 crunches, and at least a 10 minute jog in every evening. Now that its warmed up were I live, Im adding in about 30 minutes of trampoline jumping.

My problem is not being overweight, but being slightly underweight. I'm only about 7lbs underweight right now, but it still sucks because I get tired far more easily than I should.

Luke Wolf has a point. Muscle weighs more than fat. I have always been considered 20 to 30 lbs overweight, I weigh about 155 to 160, but I have a low body fat percentage. When I was in the military and had to get weighed in for every PRT I was told to be overweight so they had to do a percentage test and I always came out with less body fat that those who were of "average" weight. So, that is why I don't really worry about my "few extra pounds" ... they are muscle and I'd like to keep that.
Well, not ALL muscle I'm sure, I have my curves I'd like to keep too ![]()

The charts suck!
When I was 17, I was borderline obese according to the charts. At 5'9", I was 194 pounds at 5% bodyfat. My weight throughout my 20's ranged from 220 to 300 pounds. At the beginning of my current round of weight loss, I was going to try to lose 100 pounds. That would have brought me down to 190. After doing a body composition test, I had to re-evaluate my target because I had 223 pounds of lean mass. For all the work it takes to put it on, I can't see myself losing 40 pounds of muscle just to hit a meaningless number. When I find a spot where I look and feel good, I'll stop there.
