Once a long time ago I was going to a friends house. I am white and she was African American and lived in an mostly African American neighborhood. When we got off the bus and were walking to her house a group of young men started taunting us. The began to ridicule her by saying, " Hey girl, why are you bringing that white girl into our neighborhood?" We just kept on walking, and they kept on taunting. It was a freightening situation, for a lot more was said. She and I couldn't understand how these guys could be so hateful of me and not even know me.
For the first time in my life I understood what it must be like to be a minority and be subject to hatred just because of the color of my skin. It was a moment of awakening for me, one I never forgot. I guess that is part of the reason I love other cultures so much. I make it a point to learn about people and their feelings, without judging beforehand. What about you? Have you ever had a similar experience?

Yep ... Well my daughter has
When she was about 8 months or so we were at the food court in the mall with a friend of mine, I had gotten up to get something from one of the food places and left Alicia there with my friend. I noticed before I got up from the table there was this old lady ( Id prefer to call her an old bag cause thats what she was ) looking over at us with disgust. ( my daughter is Black and White ). I smiled at her just to see what would happen and she looked away. While Im standing at the food place all of a sudden I hear Alicia screaming and crying.. horribly I might add. It turns out this old lady had gotten up and walked over to the table we were at and scowled at Alicia something awful. As I go back to my table ( hurridly ) My friend lit into this woman like you wouldnt believe. Not once did she cuss at her or call her names. She did however have every person in the food court's attention. After my friend stopped yelling wich was about 5 or so minutes, the woman apologized.. I doubt she meant it I still to this day not know why she did it. I can assume it was because of Alicia's skin color ( wich I think is amazing on anyone, no need to tan!! )I refuse to take this kind of behavior lightly.. I never got a word in edge wise... thanks to my friend wich is probably a good thing, because when it comes to my daughter and her skin color it takes very little to set me off.

Among other things ...
I was refused service at a restaurant because I was with a young African woman. Also, while participating in Civil Rights demonstrations, I've (a) had garbage thrown at me from passing cars by an organized gang of lumpen white youth, and (b) been physically attacked by members of the American Nazi Party. Then, of course, there was the petty shoving, spitting, calls of "******-lover", etc. All of this was in the mid-60s in Southern California.

I've never received prejeduce because of my outward appearance, but i have been made fun of because of my faith. I have had a lot of friends stop being my friend simply because i'm catholic, and have different morals then them.
