Once in a while I get so depressed I just don't care too much about anything. I do what I have to do, and let everythig else go. I end up saying things I would normally never say, ignore people, ignore things I care about. It doesn't last too long at a time, but I think it isn't me, you know, it isn't right.
What do you guys do when you're depressed? Do you have anything particular you like to do to cheer yourself up? I'd like some ideas.

Spend some time alone and work through what is troubling me.... either on a hike, or just out and about... alot of times I go to the library, that always makes me feel better.
Or, have a party.... I make some popcorn, order a pizza, let the kids pick out a movie and we have a picnic on the living room floor and just have fun. ![]()

When I'm depressed, I wallow for a while, then I take a look at myself and find out the reason why I'm depressed (which usually isn't the reason I think it is), then I try to do something to change whatever it is that started the cycle. If I can't change it, then I accept it and do my best to move on. Usually some time alone navel-gazing is what eventually brings me out of any depression - but the chocolate, movies and books I use as distractions while I wallow are also fun. If you can't get out of this slump on your own, counselling is always a good idea.

I allow myself to go through it, because it means I'm diving for gold. I always come out of it stronger and with new insights.
One of the best things you can do for depression is to do something for someone else. Help someone who needs help, random acts of kindness, give to the poor, help an old lady clean out her garage, etc. |

It is important to note that Zoloft, as well as other Anti-depressants increases suicidal tendencies in youth.

I prescribe sixteen hours of steady video games. Preferable of the turn-based or real-time strategy genre, or RPGs.
![]() That's what I call a depression blocker. ![]() I get that way too, sometimes. I've even induced myself to it, a couple times (long story, each time. When I think on things too much, and there are no concievable answers, it'll depress me. Think "Nature of the universe" type questions, and imagine me thinking for hours. )The only thing to do is slug it out. There are things that will help, however. I find that the citrus smell that you get from lemons and oranges is a good mood elevater, and, as a bonus, I get a tasty snack. Video games, as I've said, are very good. Another thing to do is to consider taking a walk in the woods, and noticing everything, basking in the radiant, surrounding life. Kick starts the happiness right up again. If you feel that it gets too severe, talk to a doctor, and don't be afraid. All of us are here to help, so don't forget that! ![]() P.S. Maize: Some studies have shown that mood-elevating drugs, like "Zoloft", can enhance the mental performance of even non-depressed people. Some Doctors have reccomended that there be low-dose mood elevating drugs, similar to low-dose Aspirin, in order to capitalize on such benefits.
