My avatar is from a piece of artwork. I had a thought...since art and religion are almost always entwined, I'm going to give 50 coins (and frubal the post) to whoever can find out what it is first. Once someone gets it right, I'll change my avatar and you guys can do it again if you want ... y'all are so smart I'll probably go broke, thoughSo go at it!

Wow....my professors were right. My art history classes would pay off one day. This is from a Grunewald painting called The Meeting of St Anthony Abbot and St Paul in the Wilderness.

It`s from a triptych/polyptych painted for an altar.

Polyptych : More than three panelled piece

I just can`t rememeber how many paintings are involved.

I was actually looking for the name of the Triptych. It is, I believe, a tryptich (although, technically, it has six paintings - three when folded, three when unfolded. Sort of like two triptychs)

But since Melody was right, and so was linwood, I think they both get props

The clue for the next is that it does not depict a New Testament scene, nor is it modern.
