In another thread it was stated that a parent would never allow their kids to suffer. This struck me as I feel it is true but yet I have 2 kids and allow them to suffer at times it helps them learn. At times I also belittle their suffering to try and calm the situation and get a handle on it as in calm down your not really hurt.
I thought about all the ways I could remove there suffering and the only solution I got was to put them in a closed enviroment and be able to read their minds and then provide everything they needed to stop all their suffering. 2 questions come to mind would they actually be living then and would I then always be suffering. Suffering at times allows them to learn and in thinking about it from birth on to today suffering has been a great teacher for me. So what I am looking for is a way to live life without suffering. I understand there is minor suffering and major suffering but to be honest this is a perception. You go to a poor country and they don't see their suffering as you do. Also a baby that skins its knee feels it is suffering greatly yet in reality it is only minor. So again barring preceptions can you live life without suffering.

I was taught that to live without suffering, you should first run towards the things that scare you the most. Typically the second time around, it isn't so bad. Third time around "better" still. Fourth time........ It works like that. -NM-

You would still be suffering. You are just normalizing it.

I'm thinking if we did not have bad days, we would not appreciate good ones.

Suffer means ...to allow.
There is a difference between pain and suffering. Enduring pain trains the mind to set aside the discomfort, that you are able to continue, when injury and disease would otherwise stop you. Suffering is when you stand, and allow the world what it will do. Of course, this standard has probably fallen to the wayside. Mostly by lack of proper grammar. People routinely exchange the two ideas, when expressing their hardships. |

Right. You can't live life without pain, but you can minimize suffering.
I try by telling myself (and my kids) that pain is inevitable. It has come for me, and it will come for me again. I just have to deal with it and then move on. |

So...items that are not painful are not included here?
What of suffering freedom of speech? You might not like what the other guy said, but you might suffer it (allow). |

I am going by dictionary definition which does not mention allow. In saying suffering freedom of speech you are indicating that it will cause some necessary pain. That is how I interpet it otherwise you would just say allow.
