Default The American Legion's rant

The American Legion Magazine
February, 2005

Legion stands up for Scouts after ACLU-DoD settlement

By Rees Lloyd
Quote:
American Legion National Commander Thomas Cadmus recently called on government officials to "stand up to the ACLU," fueling a firestorm of protest against fanatical in terrorem litigation by the American Civil Liberties Union against the Boy Scouts, the Mojave Desert Veterans Memorial and every public expression of America's religious history and heritage.
Quote:
The public generally does not know the ACLU is profiting in such cases by millions of dollars in taxpayer-paid "attorney fee awards" authorized under the Civil Rights Act, 42 U.S. Code Sec. 1988.
The rant goes on in the complete article

The fee would not be requested under the law if government and other leaders understood and followed the Constitution. A little education would save a lot of money

So why did the ACLU take issue with the Boy Scouts, don't they do nice things like help old ladies across the street?

I believe there is a thread that answers your question directly. Try using the search function

What a mealy mouthed answer. The reason must be interesting for you to respond in such a way.

Actually, Desi, I consider your question to be off-topic. We are not discussing the motives for what the ACLU does but, triggerd by the complaint, that winning sides in a court case should or should not be reimbursed. There are other threads that answer your question which is not appropos to the subject of this thread

Pah will be getting frubals for such a kind reply once I can give them again.

I agree that making sure our public officials are educated about such things would save time and money. Maybe some sort of free, mandatory class before taking certain offices is the answer?
