Masturbation, A Forbidden Fruit?

Is masturbation wrong? Why/Why not? Should masturbation be taught, in sexual education, along with intercourse?

Many a time I have brought up the subject in RL, and been greeted with embarassed or accusing stares. Why? Why is there such a stigma surrounding a natural part of humanity? Are we to remain such a sexually repressed culture forever?

Masturbation is the sexual “Do It Yourself” method of self satisfaction. It is nothing to be ashamed of and it may be GOD’s way of saying “you deserve a break today”.

I do not understand why it is considered taboo either. It’s quick, it’s easy and clean up is a breeze. Sort of like meditation for your body.

For those that are in a monogamous relationship, masterbating is a better alternative to cheating on the partner if the need arrives and the partner is not available. It also cuts down on the risk of catching anything.

It's not specifically condemned in the NT but lust for a woman (other than your wife) is. So I guess it depends on who you are lusting for.

I overcame masturbation before I was married due to Matthew 5:28. Now that I am married I don't need it.

Everybody here masturbates or has masturbated, I have and do, I've even seen monkeys at the zoo doing it, I've seen my dog hump a stuffed toy he has (an animal blow up doll?), it's part of our nature. It's not good or bad, it's just things we do and the more honest we are about it with our children when they start getting the urges to do it the better, of course there are appropriate times and places. I couldn't tell you why it's seems such a "taboo" topic in our culture.

Just the fact that adult bookstores and mail order houses sell millions of mechanical and electrical masturbation devices every year tells me someone is doing it let alone those that go commando (without a mechanical aid)- I just don't know.

Once again You, in my opinion, have given the best answer in as few words as possible - you are of course perfectly right.

Personally I don't think it is right, but there are times when 'Ol Mother nature' does something to me, and I do, and I do regret it, and each time I say "I'll try to steer clear of masturbation, I promisse I'll try harder......."

There was a rather entertaining thread about masturbation here when I first joined RF (and I'll admit, wanting to post in that thread was one of the reasons I joined). I'll see if I can dig it out...Sunstone and I had a giggle while we were posting in it. People can be so uptight!!
