This was just posted on Zen Habits
In condensed form, the steps are this: 1) Admit you are not perfect 2) Place yourself in the shoes of others 3) Act with compassion and kindness 4) Practice 5) Make it your goal to do 5 kind things every day What do people think? Do the majority of people really possess this inconsiderate streak? If they do, are these steps a good method for overcoming it? What else can we do to stop being such jerks? For myself, at least, I have a tendency to get very annoyed with others. I think "He/she should not do things like..." However, I am very bad at taking those thoughts and reflecting them back on myself. I do have the power to defeat such actions by ensuring that I don't do them but more often than not, this bit of reflexive thinking is left unthought. |
