Is society near collapse? (moral, America, marriage, moral, disease)

Is society nearing collapse? IF so, then what are the causes of it's impending collapse? Is the end near? What do you think?

What do you think of the notion that a society can collapse due to moral corruption? Is moral corruption more plausible than other possible causes of social collapse?

I think a collapse might more likely be from disease and lack of natural resources. Also, possibly from not taking care of the needs of the majority.

Well then again what do we define as "social collapse". I mean think about American society 70 years ago as compared to today, society is very different than what it was. Did that mean we had a social collapse and a new one was built in its place? I imagine Donna Reed might call us living in 2005 as "morally corrupt" while someone from the victorian era would be shocked at Donna exposing her collar bone!
I think social orders, mores and folkways will change as the environment around it changes but i don't think society can "collapse", it'll grow and change to fit new realities, granted it may change into a creature wholey different than what we are used to but it is still a social order of sorts.
Some on the religious right use the arguement that moral corruption will lead to social collapse...essentially they are equating living an immoral life to the coming of the apocolypse. But people said the same thing about inter-racial marriages, integration and women in the work place and society didn't collapse, it changed and is still changing.
In 100 years society "as we know it" will be dead and gone but a social structure will still be there.

No. It is not on the verge of collapse. Humans are social animals, and as long as there are people, there will always be a society. If one didn't exist, we'd create it in minutes.

Now, is it on the verge of changing? Absolutely, but then, it is always changing...

I believe that American society may be on the verge of collapse, but I dont think it is the end of the world. More likely overpopulation due to the consumption of all our natural resources or the rest of the world gets mad at us and nukes the heck out of us.
