You don't need to read a holy book to know about god or to know what is good and what is evil. Evil is just human stupidity at many different levels. The day we are born, we already inherit the knowledge of there being a god and what is good (unconditional love) and what is wrong (including very bad/even evil).

We are educated people living in an educated world, lets practice lodgic and commonsense here, move away from the stories and fairytales of ancient past, for all we know, the bible could have been written by a mad man who was delusional or even skitzo (who kept hearing &/or seeing things). You choose to love or you choose to hate. You choose to be selfless or you choose to be selfish. Your choices will determin your destiny, your environment will determin your character.
as a buddhist, how does one defeat evil?

Now thats ridiculous and funny!! Are you really serious? Have you read the Koran? In one place it says to be at peace with everyone and then turns right around and says to make war upon those that do not believe. It is a book that commands its followers to kill those that do not believe. It is a book of war. I know I am not going to be very popular for saying this, but I tend to agree with some of what was in that article. I know everyone is trying to be kind, accomodating and tolerant, and that is nice of all of you. But, when the vast majority of those commiting suicide bombings, car bombing and assassinations are fundamentalists who say that they are doing so in the name of their religion, it tells me there must be something wrong with that religion. Of course I don't think all muslims are terrorists, but a vast amount of terrorists are muslim. It seems kind of a simple logical conclusion. Sorry if it offends, its just the way I see things right now. I know I am going to get ripped, so let it begin.

Yes it says a lot of strange things. At risk of sounding apologetic I must stress that the Koran is following in a rich line of contradictory gibberish.

It suggests to me problems in the societies and cultures producing these people. Perhaps that's for another thread.

Not at all, that's the funniest thing I've read since the linked article at the start of this thread.

Perhaps if you lived in Northern Ireland during the troubles you'd find "a vast amount of terrorists" are Christian. Maybe that's for another thread also.
