If indeed a 'gay' gene was discovered (as discussed in Sexual Orientation part 2) what effect would there be on religions?
Christianity believes that homosexuality is a sin, unnatural, but if it could be proved that homosexuality was indeed a thing of nature, rather than nurture, do you think this might have some kind of great impact on the way Christians (or indeed any other religion that looks down upon homosexuality) view homosexuals as it would point towards 'God' creating them rather than them choosing their sexual orientation. |

Well, one thing that would happen immediately if a gay gene (or gene complex) were discovered...a lot of fundamentalist Christians would deny that it had been discovered. They would use pseudo-science to back their claims. You can see this sort of thing already going on in opposition to the discovery of evolution. I think one reason why that happens is that it is intellectually easier to deny a fact than it is to take up the intellectual challenge of figuring out how that fact can be reconciled with ones religion.

Doubt it. Not for a while, anyway. Denial, denial, denial.

It would be creationism vs evolution all over again.
Denial, Denial, reams of pseudo-science to support that denial. Lies deception..you know the drill.

It is true that christians as a mojority take a while to reform their ideas. But I think in time it will happen. It may be a LONG time, but still. Just time.

How many "gay" people wrote the Bible? How many of them if they were "gay" would have admitted it?
If "gayness" weren't the minority, just think of how different things would be. The "Bible" says it is wrong....it is only wrong because it is the monority. It is not a sin, as is stealing, murder, rape, etc. |

That sort of "stubborness" is not unique to Christians, of course. Most of us could do a lot better dealing with change than we do. One thing that I don't think would happen if a gene complex for homosexuality were found... I don't think it would undermine the faith of too many Christians. It wouldn't cause a lot of people to renounce Christianity. Christianity is strong enough to absorb the shock of it without falling apart.
