The God Gene : How Faith is Hardwired into our Genes

One of the implications of the notion that religious behavior has a genetic component is, of course, that we might not have any real choice about whether to be religious or not. If it is true that we have no real choice about whether to be religious, that would upset some apple carts.

I look at this philosphicical/metaphysical rubbish just as I look at most, qouting "Wiley" from B.C. "theres a buck to be made here" just as most of the "new age" expensive toilet paper products out there. There are underlying motives and many are quick to assume the position. My advice is if you want to read it wait till it hits your local library and read it for free or spend a lot of time at Borders book store (or compareable merchant) get an overpriced espresso or two and read it in a comfortable chair before you spend too many atoms of sweat off of your back to read it- My opinion anyway.

Hamer is probably on the right track even though his evidence is scanty and his publication premature. Genetics are proving everywhere else we look to be a crucial component of human behavior -- why wouldn't they be a crucial component of religious behavior?

I was reading about vmat2 about 1/2 a year ago but there is so little on it. This article was one of the most informative that I found. Did anyone else find any info on this gene and its function?

Tangent question. Has there ever been discovered a gene that has no purpose? My understanding is that there is not and if this is so why would a gene that tells us God exist be neccessary if God does not exist?

Calling it a 'God gene' is an unfortunate piece of semantic sleight of hand.

Good point .. Vmat2 is stil hypothized to tell us that the supernatural exists as I am understanding it. What is the point of a gene code telling inclining that something exists if it does not? That would make the notion of reality completely relative as opposed to somewhere between absolute and relative.
