Recently, a lot of contreversy has been surrounding the hoax that two men claiming they had the body of "bigfoot" - which they later confessed was a hoax after gaining national attention. Many scientists and different organizations are now seeking damages in the form of law suits.
This brings us to the question of - SHOULD THERE BE HARSHER CRIMINAL PUNISHMENTS FOR THOSE PULLING OFF HOAXES? From ET, loch ness, bigfoot, aliens, alien abductions, crop circles, and much more - these represent important discovers to the progress for humanity and the hoaxes hinders the discovery of the actual - if ever there was one. I would argue that there should be harsher punishments to deter future hoaxes, so we can grant better credibility to real claims that actually matters.

No, if people are afraid of being penalized for telling what they truly think is a paranormal event, they probably won't. We need to hear from all sides of the story regardless of hoax or not, plus sometimes they're entertaining.

Some may think they're entertaining, but if we have harsher punishments, wouldn't only those with serious claims come out of the woods? If they want to be entertainers, become one. DOn't pretend to be real then waste everyone's time.

The whole point is that if you want to claim something - you should have evidence. So how would "serious claimers" be real if they had no seriousness to back up their claim besides their own account? For something to be real - you need 3rd party verification, someone else agreeing with you that it's real. In the scientific world, you need tons of 3rd party verification. There is a difference, by the way, between a report and a claim. If you want to report a UFO or this and that, that's fine. But do not claim you have an alien body you stumbled upon in your garage and get on national news if you in fact, do not. This is what the 2 dumbasses did a little while back when they actually claimed they have the body of bigfoot in their freezer and got on CNN and ther prime times. Then later, admitted it was a hoax and was a rubber suit - they should be slapped across the face for stupidity.
