North Texas school's teachers can carry guns

A good reason for the teacher to have two guns.

In the case of a shotgun and a pistol (six-shooter variety), the cartidges can be loaded with a few rubber rounds and few live rounds. (Half and Half in a six round magazine).

Thata way a student could fire three harmless rounds before the lives ones kick in - and teachers can have an alternative to deadly force. A rubber round should knock a student unconscious, but if that doesn't work, the live round will stop them.

I hope there will come a time when teachers do not feel the need to carry a fire arm at all.

Intersting how people seem to think that just because the school allows teachers to carry firearms that someone is merely passing them out to teachers.

They still have to go through all the red tape to legally carry said firearm.

In other words, the school is merely allowing those who have the states permission to carry a concealed weapon to carry said weapon on school property.

I had a quick look on the Texas Dept. of Public Safety web site. From what I gather, the requirements for a concealed carry permit in Texas are:

- acceptable criminal record
- acceptable psychiatric condition
- Texas residency (usually)
- 10-hour course
- firearm proficiency test

Is that correct?

It seemed like your previous post implied that we should take the government's requirements for concealed carry permit holders as some reassurance that this decision is a good idea.

If we don't know what the requirements are, how can they be any sort of reassurance to us?
