One kind of success is accomplishing a goal to it's finality.
This type of success has had a tendency of making me a failure. But the deeper kind of success is life lived "in the zone". If I could live in the zone, an even %75 of the time, I would consider that a success. But then that would be a goal. Have I just set myself up to fail at success yet again?

Mostly by how happy they are (although, it's hard to tell in other people).

We can all tippytoe around the fact with philosophy & idealism. Oh yes, happiness is really being with your family, not having regrets in life, getting closer to Jesus, what have you. And they're all right. No answer is wrong to this question. And it's everyone right to have their own interpretations. But the fact is ... money makes the world go round. Any interpretation of success must include in it, some form of economic or financial success by defition. If you don't, then that's fine. You can be a hermit outside of society living off mother nature, or live some comfortable lifestyles within society, but society itself measures success by wealth. It's sad, but it's true.
How much money do you make? How old are you? Is where you are where you thought you'd be? Do you wish you could've done more? Do you provide a poverty level lifestyle for your family or self? Do you provide a mediocre or middle class level lifestyle for your family or self? Do you provide a wealthy or affluent level lifestyle for your family or self? It's a trade off we all must make. Money vs. non-money happiness. Whatever you're comfortable with is fine, but you should at least have some kind of money consideration in any definition of success unless you live or plan on continuing to live in currency exchanging societies.

It really depends on what your definition of success is. Some believe it is money, some believe fame, some believe getting to heaven, some believe making a difference in someone's life, some believe being happy.
So truly, you can't judge. You have absolutely no right to. Because they could be trying for a totally different kind of success than you. |

To be free from the fear of anything that could be percieve to be a threat to survival is perhaps ONE aspect of success.
If all the wealth in the world was equally distributed among humans we would have more than enough. Money has value only because we want to use it as a measuring stick for success. If everyone had equally,we wouldnt need to use money as a measuring tool. The rich fear death, more than the poor, and the poor fear lack more than the rich. If all were equal in possessions, there would be no such fear. PS: perhaps this is why jesus told the rich guy to sell all he had. |
