Hi there! Do you have a bully for a boss? How do you cope? What can you do about it, and how can you prevent yourself from becoming his/her victim?

I had. I stood up to them. But I still ended up leaving the job. I suggest go to your union, or if you're not a member, join one.

In my case I am standing up to her, but in a way that doesnt allow her to mess around with my inner peace. I'm not getting involved in verbal discussions, or public brollies. Whenever I talk to her I just go somewhere nice in my head...keeps me from getting uptight.
However...I have found that that particularly gets her knickers in a twist. It seems to make her more determined to get the knive in. I think she wants me to get uptight to feel that she has some control over me. She feels very uncomfortable around me, but I have to say that it really is draining to have to be in a sort of 'alert' mode everytime I'm around her. Perhaps that is good training for me...One thing I read on another thread which makes a lot of sense is that since I expect a different kind of attitude in authority figures I'm dissapointed when she acts like an uptight corset. If I just stop being dissapointed in her, I wont have to be on my guard, but really just expect the worse everytime I see her. That would at least take away the suspense and guardedness I have when I am around her. I have made up my mind though...no losing my cool around her! Its exactly what will make me her victim. ![]() |

I think she is probably intimidated by you......With some people the thought of being replaced is constantly a threat to them, and if she thinks that you are capable of doing her job, you are indeed a real threat to her....She probably wants to push your buttons hoping you will quit and she can find someone who is less threatening to her............It's senseless why someone would want to have to train someone to replace a person rather than use the person who is already there as a resourceful and reliable employee. Looks like she would rather have you on her side than working against her, but with some their is no sense of reason......I pray it works out for you.....It is difficult to keep your concentration on the job when you are working under strained conditions..........
Blessings Charity

I don't but my poor hubby does. I think his boss thinks no one listens to him, and he is right, no one listens. New boss who is trying to change everything instead of trusting people that they haveit figured out and have a system that works.
I think the best boss is one who trusts and respects their people instead of trying to be a control freak. I hate control freaks...

When I first became a Service Manager at the Daytona Beach Goodyear, my Boss was Napoleonic. Small and abusive, he delighted in making people miserable and often boasted as much. His and my leadership styles were antithetical which made for an openly hostile work place. He fired me several times, but my numbers were so good that Goodyear management kept putting back there. I finally refused to go back and was mercifully reassigned. His business plummeted, and he was let go within a few months. He was one of only two people I have personally known that I consider truly evil.
Stand up for the little guy! You don't need to stand up for yourself. Do what is right, not what is expedient. Remember, you work for the company and not for him. Don't lose sight of what is important and you can outlast many a jerk boss.

It is a mystery how some people are promoted to manager positions. Do they start out that way? or does the power corrupt them? Sad thing.

I had a boss who was mean to me, and then I quit. I got another job and there were two bosses who were mean to me, and I quit.

If you take garbage from them they will get used to it, give it straight back. "I'm the boss," is a weak excuse, people who use it don't deserve to be in charge of other human beings. |
