FALWELL: [W]hy [can] so few hurt so many? Why does the minority, the little noisy, squeaky, left-leaning minority, the Michael Moore crowd, the group in Hollywood, the Barbra Streisand -- why do we allow a few, just a few, to ruin a good thing? There are five reasons for what's happened. Here's why so few can hurt so many: 1) We have a runaway federal judiciary. We've appointed some bad eggs on the federal courts and we need to change that. And by the way, we don't have to impeach them, all we have to do is do away with the court. We just learned that recently. The 9th Circuit is going to be the first to go. We're going to get rid of the 23 eggheads out there who get their rulings overturned almost every time.

Falwell continues to show he is wrong on so many levels. This little quote is presumptious that "We" means his brand of Christianity and not the vastly different American people.

Another is his scorn of intellectuals.

While I was still a Baptist and attending the university, my friends and I would joke about Falwell and the SBC saying, "Well, we know the SBC has gone to the dogs. Falwell now feels he's in good company."

That guy drives me nuts, and every time he influences polity, I get a bad feeling down in my gut.

Does anyone besides me find it ironic that Jerry Falwell is complaining about the "runaway judicial process." Let's consider Mr. Falwell's own history of ridiculous litigation:

1. Falwell attempted to sue Larry Flynt for slander due to a satirical "ad" in Penthouse magazine. When the judge determined that there was no basis for a slander suit on the grounds that no one could take the "ad" as serious, Falwell pushed on to sue for "mental anguish" caused him by the suit. (The Supreme Court eventually rescinded the original judgement in Falwell's favor.)

2. When someone registered the domains www.jerryfalwell.com and www.fallwell.com (don't bother going there, they now point to Falwell's own site) to set up a satire site, Falwell threatened to sue the owner for "trademark/copyright infringement." Eventually, it was decided that Falwell had no grounds to claim such infringement. However, this did not stop Falwell from continuing to threaten the owner of the domain names with further lawsuits until said owner transferred ownership of the domain names to Falwell just for peace and quiet.

So apparently, "out of control judiciary processes" are only bad when Falwell doesn't agree with them. But if it's a matter of "protecting his good name" (and let's face it, if that qualifies as a "good name," then the standard has fallen over the eyars), being lawsuit happy is all fine and dandy.

This example of Falwellian hypocrisy has been brought to you by a witch who is torn between bemusement and annoyance.

Having met the man... as I know one of his close associates (don't ask), I find the man more reprehensible in person. He leaves an obvious slug trail where ever he goes... not that I meant to demean the slugs of this world.

When it comes to morality and deciept he is lower than even Bush. Yea, even Rush.

I would say that he is the anti-Christ, but I surely don't want to give him the benefit of the doubt. He is far worse than that.

BTW, as for the Cybersquatting issue... you are touching a close nerve. I am the victim of one such slimeball, and it is emotionally draining to say the least. I don't think I would advocate the death penalty for them, but they should be subject to some pretty harsh stuff.
