What is the solution to pollution? How can we manufacture what we need without polluting? How can we explore space without leaving junk in it? Is the only answer to get back to the basics and just live off the land with no toys?

Congrats Jewscout, that's the best solution on here. Live relatively simply, and you produce less garbage.

On the other suggestions, I doubt that we would really want to jettison our garbage. After all, there may actually be a use for it some time, and that garbage is a processed part of our planet. It's bad enough that we're depleting it, we don't need to remove the resources permanently. We should learn to recycle them.

OK. This site seems to hide the smiley faces from me (I can't see any images at all on this browser), and so if you had them I missed the clue. I would turn such visual cues into plain ascii if I could.

yeah, burnination is good for villages and pesants (go trogdar) but not for all types of trash. Paper and the like can be burned well, plastics and thier ilk not so good.
There are renewable sources of energy avalable for home use.
Sun, wind and water are a good start, most homes should run on a combo for best effect.
