Default The Hero and Myth

Even though we become unhappy with religion and think it should progress or believe science should replace it, we still seem to have the same needs. Many of our movies are about heroes and there are many mythological movies. We have more movies now with female heros. I seems we still have a great for myth and the Hero. I see Jesus as the Hero figure. What do you think?

I think Jesus was a hero. Not just for the people of his time, but even today. He preached a great message, regardless of whether or not he was the son of god.

Jesus was and is a hero of a sort , but much more . Heros are often those who act without thinking . Not always , but quite often . Just look at most movie heros ...

Abslotely, Campbell, in The Hero With a Thousand Faces, says a common theme of a hero's tale is
"A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from the mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man"

Campbell then applies this to Moses and to Jesus.

Whether I believe the accounts of THE BIBLE or not, I see Jesus as a kind of a hero. But I do not see Jesus as an action hero which is why I was completely stunned to discover that they have "action figures" of both Jesus and Moses!! I have been surrounded by heros most of my life. Whether they be the ones in fiction (comic books-graphic novels) or in the movies to even the men and women whose job it is to save people. I do not think we should worship heroes I think their lives should be revered but I do not think BEing a hero and worshiping them mix well.
