Under what circumstances, if any, is personal competition a good thing? What makes it a good thing under those circumstances?
Under what circumstances, if any, is personal competition a bad thing? What makes it a bad thing under those circumstances?

Ah. Well, if a person is motivated by competition, one can achieve all sorts of personal goals such as losing weight, saving money, gaining knowledge...you name it. Personally, competition of any kind (other than sporting events) leaves me bored. I'm much more motivated by passion. If I didn't have a genuine love for my business and products, I probably wouldn't accomplish much.
Not sure if that's the type of answer you're looking for though. ![]() |

It's always a good thing. What makes it appear "bad" is the things that get appended to it, that have nothing to do with the competition but are still taken in and made part of the competition --things like pride, honour, one-up-manship, politics, business... and of course emotion.

It can be a good thing, as it may push a person to better. If it becomes obsessive, then it is a bad thing.
