When you ask a question do you expect it to be answered? When a question is asked by someone else, do you expect them to answer their own?

I think if one values truth and openness, not to mention po-liteness, then it is not unreasonable to expect that ones questions get answered with recourse to the best available knowlege/intelligence extant.

Hi!
Us peanuts have tiny brains, well, none really. Are you expecting an answer? Or is this a rhetorical or a closed question? Us peanuts love to answer honest questions! I'm just a peanut though. Cheers! |

Online, I sometimes expect it, too, but then, on these forums, there are so many threads going that I may ask a question and never go back for the answer, or I may post and never see a follow-up question. It's all kind of hit or miss. I assume that other people do the same thing.

Wouldn't ask if that expectation wasn't there (unless it was a rhetorical question).
It doesn't matter to me. Sometimes people just want to see what variety of beliefs are out there.

I always hope that if I post a question on these forums, I will get an answer. If it doesn't, it isn't the end of the world. If I ask a person a question to their face and they don't acknowledge it, it makes me uneasy because I wonder if I somehow offended them. There is the chance that they did not hear or understand the question, in which I would hope they say so.

I expect my questions to be answered usually by anyone, unless the question is directed towards a specific person, then I expect them to answer it.

I would much rather have my question ignored, than to have some non-answer reply to it.
Though it does bother me when someone ignores the question and then states that they have addressed all the points or that they are not ignoring any thing asked. I do understand that threads can get moving rather fast and that some posts can be missed. That is why I will sometimes repost my question in the same thread. Most of the time, it is not because I am being a jerk, but because I wish to give the one the question was directed to a chance to catch it the second or third time. When I miss a question, I do not have any problems with, and in fact HIGHLY encourage others to send me a PM bringing it to my attention.
