The need for a monarch is most strongly felt by those with authoritarian personalities. A strong, masculine, confident Big Brother type would be most likely to placate them.

I don't think that the US could deal with any kind of monarchy, even if it was purely symbolic. We've had it drilled into us that everyone is equal... any kind of royalty wouldn't be received well.
