I know in the US many states have different rules on this.
In PA it is as follows. Is it strict enough? I truely feel someone at 16 should not be allowed to have friends in the car, or only one. This distracts them from driving. Maybe you think I am being to careful but we have had so many more youth accidents lately. Most due to alot of kids in one car and the driver being distracted. What are your thoughts? What age should you be allowed to get your license? Step 5 - Taking the Driving Test to apply for Provisional License BACK

Drivers under the age of 18 should have to have an electronic device that records their driving. I know exactly where my child is and how fast they are going.

Strict enough?? Thats seems way to harsh to me -- when I turned 16 I got my license and was free and clear of any rules or restrictions -- kids shouldnt have all this on them - the parents should teach the kid right and teach them responsible driving -- it shouldnt be up to the state govt to enforce all these rules -- why isnt responsibility and personal accountability not taught to kids anymore?
If ya ask me PA might as well raise the age to 21 for a drivers license obviously there are problems if the rules are that strict -- why would the state govt step in like that? If your kid is not mature enough to take driving seriously at 16 why let them even get a license? It looks quite terrible and negative -- parents not teaching the kids so the govt has to step in and enforce insane rules against them -- wow thats scary |

If kids aren't ready to drive by 16 and 17, society needs to stop babying them.

So do you think in general they are ready at this age?

Around here, things are similar, but different:
- we don't have the nighttime restriction for the "junior licence" (called a "G2" here) - we do have a zero (yes, zero) blood alcohol limit for all drivers without their full ("G") licence. I'm not sure what to think of the nighttime restriction in PA. I suppose it's workable. I do think that a zero blood alcohol limit would be a good idea, though. I think that's an important habit to engrain in drivers early. |

Actually I don't think the restrictions in PA at night are bad. The number one cause of death of a teen in the US is car accidents. Teens Report on Teen Driving—Speed, Passengers, Seat Belts, Cell Phones | HHCS - Feb 2007 |
