A hypothesis for natural selection in our day. Feel free to deconstruct it.
I've seen natural or artificial selection (not sure which to call it) take it's toll here in Delaware, probably happening everywhere else too. You see, very beautiful women (physically) and handsome wealthy men are both hard to find here. Although they are generally rare to begin with, you would think that they would be evenly distributed throughout the population. This doesn't seem to be the case. Where have they all gone? Well, if a man wants to make alot of money, really big money, he's not going to do it in some small town in the middle of the Delmarva peninsula. He'll have to move to the big city where big money can be made. As for beautiful women, the ones who drop your jaw when they walk through the door, they can have any man or anything they want. Why would they settle for some small town lower middle class hick in a Dodge pickup and a trailer when she could have a handsome wealthy bachelor? The only problem? Where are all the handsome wealthy men? In the big city making big money. So the first thing they do when they turn 18 (provided that they aren't already knocked up) is move to the big city. In my high school (small town hick school in the middle of nowhere) there were about four girls I considered to be better than average looking. Haven't seen hide or hair of any of them since graduation. Unless they've developed an eating disorder I seriously doubt they're living in Billy Bob's trailer and working at Walmart. So what impact does this have on our evolution? Well, the poor seem to have alot more kids than the wealthy. If the poor have a good looking or financially successful offspring, they don't stick around and spread their genes. As a result we have what we find here in Delaware, especially South of New Castle County. What do you think? Despite how shallow it may seem is there any truth to this?

Without having ever been to Delaware myself, I don't think this is a problem with a shift in beauty so much as bad diet. People choose mates based on certain factors, depended on their tastes, beliefs, and sexes, to name a few factors.
The reason why people make strange decisions here, ultimately, comes down to our roots. A hundred thousand years ago, a woman probably needed an aggressive man to protect her from wild animals, the elements, and the other men in the other village, and who knows what the hell men were thinking back then (girls, you still think that about us, no? ).

There was a time when Nottingham girls were said to be the most pretty in the UK.
Ideas of beauty change and the mobility of people has done a lot to even things up. So now there is far less of the "Local Look" that there was when I was a boy. As for beautiful Girls always choosing Rich men is nonsense. You only have to look around to see it is not true. Most people marry those that have a lot of features in common with them selves. Same looks, same background, same intelligence and education. There is no direct evidence that a Beautiful Girls produces beautiful children. Or that they make better wives, or are more intelligent. some times I think their beauty only makes up for lacks in other areas. Handsome people generally stay handsome all their lives. Pretty Girls and attractive men generally fade to normality very young.

What we consider "beauty" and handsome has nothing to do with Natural selection or evolution. It's a only a preference we have for a certain look.

Don't all creatures with eyes have a preference for a certain look in a mate? Isn't that what peacock feathers and big fluffy manes and swollen red rumps are all about? Does that not drive their evolution?

I have never wanted a man for his money.
I fell in love with my husband years ago when he used to ride his bicycle (he was my bf then), then when he got his car, his female neighbour started to get extra chatty with him (even more than before). Heh heh, her loss! ![]()

I'm really happy for you. I don't know if things work the same way there as they do here as far as what I'm talking about. I don't know much about your culture. Something I have noticed, back when I was single, American women don't give me the time of day. Whereas, foreign women seem to gravitate to me as if I were a magnet.

I say "No" to all. Plus, diamonds are not my best friend. My best friend is my husband. Even if he was dirt poor and we had to live in a mud hut, he would be my wealth. Sorry if this sounds mushy but it's true! It really upsets me to know that women put down decent men because they aren't rich enough.
