"Apocalypse Now!" Technically, it is brilliant. The on location filming and cinematography is beautiful. The acting (Martin Sheen, Robert Duval, Harrison Ford, Marlon Brando, Lawrence Fishburne) is outstanding. The story is complex, thought provoking, horrifying and funny. And the complexities of human violence and the struggle for meaning within the struggle for survival are laid more bare than in any other film before or since.

That's one of my favorites, and it's based on a brilliant story, Heart of Darkness, which is the basis for many other movies.
