A stem cell is a primitive type of cell that can be coaxed into developing into most of the 220 types of cells found in the human body (e.g. blood cells, heart cells, brain cells, etc). Some researchers regard them as offering the greatest potential for the alleviation of human suffering since the development of antibiotics. Over 100 million Americans and two billion other humans worldwide suffer from diseases that may eventually be treated more effectively with stem cells or even cured. These include heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer.
So my question is do you agree with stem cell research if so/not why?

There was a time when stem cells could only be obtained from The product of abortions.
Now they are mostly obtained from a persons own blood of from foetal blood obtained from afterbirth. We do allow Stem cell research in the UK...and some American companies do it here and other equally enlightened countries. It is a very important area of research and has already proved beneficial in treatments. It probably has the Greatest ongoing research effort of any medical field.

However MS, dementia and other brain and nerve disorders are promising areas of research. as yet there are no authorised and licence treatments outside research projects. I was talking about serious and authorised research projects. These are now being actively encouraged, both by the government and The medical profession.

I don't care where stem cells come from, but I'm not a big fan of the treatment. Sometimes diseases just need to take their toll. We have too many people as it is.

I suspect it would be immoral to oppose stem cell research, given the suffering it could alleviate.

I would agree there are too many of us... whoever it would be selfish in the extreme to wish unnecessary suffering on those that could be treated. Do you think it would be a good Idea to include any other groups in a cull?

I suspect there are other ways to do this research. Respect and compassion for human life could be respected as well. I suspect only an immoral person would consider them just a bunch of cells. The word harvested should have gave you a clue.
