I think it's selfish, when they're 20 she'll be 80.
Should they have to go through the pain of losing their parents or visiting them in a nursing home when they should be dating, getting an education etc.

Really stupid move imo.

Part of me wants to say well if she can why not! Good on her, every woman has the right to have children if they can!

HOWEVER
Part of me thinks how silly it is from an age point of you - yes we live in a society where people live longer, but when her kids are 21 - she will be 81 (if she is even stil alive) - I think the womans average is 75 now. I think its unfair for the kids to know that their mum may not see them even grow up, get married or have kids. At her age - every minute counts, she could drop dead tomorrow (I hope she doesnt) and then the kids wont have a mum! There is also the complications of the actual pregnancy at that age. I think it starts to decline around the 30s.

I saw some of this on the Today show this morning. My concern would be the parents will die before the kids are ever raised. I know I would not be wanting kids at 60 but maybe that is just me.

Whether or not a woman at that age decides to have a baby should be judged case by case. Every person ages differently, has different energy levels, outlooks, health problems. Just like a woman in her 30's may not be healthy enough to consider having a child, some women in their 50's can be healthy, vital, and perfectly fine for having a baby. I personally think that my mother, who is 56, would be just fine having a baby now. She's vital and healthy and energetic. Though my father would have to wonder what's up since he had a vasectomy over 20 years ago.

I can see your point! But there are many people who look healthy have energetic levels - but at that age in particular, they can suddenly drop down dead! My grandpa died when he was 52! It happens to people of 30 too I understand that but it is more likely to happen/more of a risk as the person ages. They may look young and feel it, but nothing prevents the heart from being 60yrs old!

I'm sure if a woman at a progressed age were to become pregnant, or attempt to become pregnant via doctor's help, they would have a thorough examination. No, nothing prevents the heart from being 60 years old, but how they treat themselves and take care of themselves may mean that they have such a healthy heart that it is the average of a 35 year olds.

There is a woman who is over 100 who is out playing golf and shooting hole in ones and is healthy and energetic and vital.

It's all how you take care of yourself.

Also, in this case, consider that the husband is 38. If people are concerned about the age of the parents being too old, then his number should be a little reassuring.

I guess it is in a way - but I would rather know for certain that my child would have two sets of parents - than suffer the heartbreak of a loss at another one! Imagine how that child would feel and how difficult it would be for the father to bring them up without the mother if she were to die now, a years time or before they are fully grown (which is more likely than a 30year old dieing)

So, should people in the military avoid having children? Or perhaps diabetics? What about people who drive for a living? Being behind the wheel all the time increases your chance of having a fatal car accident.

You are never going to know for certain that your child will have 2 parents. You cannot plan for everything. That woman may well outlive you. She might not. The thing is, we are not her, nor do we even know her and her life and how she lives it. We are in no postition to say that what she did was in any way wrong without knowing more about her and her situation.

I would not agree with someone I personally knew to be in bad health or aging poorly to have a child. However, as I said before, I believe it to be something taken on a case by case basis. And my not knowing this woman leads me to give her the benefit of the doubt.
