Are we turning sex into something it shouldnt be? (procreation, evolve)

Ok, the thread by sunstone regarding people should have sex before age 22 has made me think whether we are starting to miss the biological point of sex? I didnt want to take up his thread so I have opened a new one. I would prefer that people voice their opinions as they wish but from a non-religous point of view. No "because the bible says so" because people who dont believe in the bible wont accept that argument. Here are some points.....

NOTE: THESE ARE MY VIEWS, I AM NOT SAYING THAT THIS IS HOW IT SHOULD BE!!!

• Many people have sex because it is "fun" and have seemed to have forgotten that the purpose of sex is to procreate(BIOLOGICALLY). Now a friend once told me that the "fun" bit ie orgasm evolved so as to keep the women on their backs (apparantly?) - it does make sense but I am not going to go into those details here..... so even the "fun" bit of sex is related to procreation. So should we be telling kids that it is ok to have "fun" especially when there are so many irresponsible ones who get themselves pregnant - and even with the responsible ones, mistakes can happen. Just a thought - yes sex is very fun for some!!!
• Many people find it perfectly natural to have x amount of partners with no real feelings for them but just for "fun" which turns "making love" into a shag/**** etc, which is not appealing to me at all!

NOTE: I AM TALKING ABOUT THOSE WHO HAVE SEX WITH DIFFERENT MEN OUTSIDE OF A RELATIONSHIP! sorry should have made that clear, my bad!

But why do so many people find this ok? I mean it put me off kissing too many guys when I find out that their saliva stays in your mouth for 6months!!!!!!! Now I dont know about sex, but if someone had sex with x amount of people (different) in a week... I dont even want to think about it!

• STDS - Unfortunately seeing the "fun" in sex has increased the level of STDS around the globe, so many people are infected with different horrible diseases, which although would still be around in years gone by, were less common due to men and women waiting til marriage?
• Personally I think there is an advantage in waiting til marriage, it will make that special night extra special! what do you guys think? (remeber: non-religious) and you dont have to worry about "will I be has good as the other partner?, I wonder what he/she likes instead of working it out togather etc.

What are your views? anything you want to add, feel free!

I find that having sex fulfills a desire that is sometimes overwhelming. The purpose of sex is to procreate, and the desire is meant to lead up to that. But that is not my current purpose for sex. Instead, it is meant to quench sexual desire. It brings me very close to my partner, and we both find it alleviates a lot of tension.

Plus, the health benefits are excellent!

Hmm...yes, some people are turning sex into something it isn't supposed to be...just not in the way you're thinking. In fact, in my opinion, your OP does just that. Sex is just sex and whatever reason someone wants to do it is good enough for me. Who cares what the purpose is? Who says it has the same purpose for everyone? For me, sex has no reproductive purpose.

Like so many other things in life, the meaning of sex is personal. The biological meaning of sex may be reproductive, but it is shaped by the frame of the individual.

Laws28186 version of sex is as perfectly valid and correct as mine.

As for the OP - i just wanted to hear other peoples views on the matter - I cant see how it is turning sex into something it is not, by asking people their views.

*shrug* I guess it's funny. It's just that I know already where I stand on the issue and no reproduction is going to come out of the sex that I have.

But this is not true, my dear Laws! Evolution does not work to a purpose. Evolution is purposeless. Therefore, sex could not have evolved for a purpose. To have a purpose, you must be human, or at least an animal capable of acting purposively.

Your friend is speculating. No one really knows how the female orgasm evolved. It hasn't been studied enough yet.
