Are clearly delineated gender roles important? Why or why not?

"Maybe sometimes".....because I would have preferred a choice of "If possible, yes".
I don't believe that it is essential, but I think that it is something that "helps" - as long as both gender role models are good ones............But that's another topic.

No. They're arbitrary. Sexual roles on the other hand...

I've yet to encounter a situation that requires them.

I don't believe in clearly defined gender roles though I do think it is a human obession to classify things and people. People always think of the the 1920s-1950s as a time when clear gender roles were appropriated but I think it is important to point out that the working class has always had ambiguos gender qualifications out of nessecity. Both parents have to work and both have to be parents.
I think that gender roles will never be eliminated because there is truely something different between men and women. Even if we were the same in things like muscles and brain chemistry, people would still be classified and tried to put in the compartments of male and female just like we do with race even though it is ethnic groups we mean. Same thing with gender vs sex like mentioned earlier. Sorry if this doesn't make a whole lot of sense, I'm very tired.

Though there are physical differences between the sexes, and there will probably always be physical differences, males and females should not have to adhere to traditional gender roles. If a girl doesn't like playing with dolls and likes toy trucks instead, she should be allowed to play with toy trucks. Making her "act like a girl" would be like making someone act like their ethnic group. It seems like enforcing stereotypes, to me.

Im not sure... It depends in what situation you mean by gender roles! Do you mean in the marriage, generally ie girls playing with dolls, boys football? Physically? as I would answer differently to each.
