This AM I heard reports of cases where immigration marchers pelted the police with rocks and bottles. This isn't the best way to voice your desire to come into my country and become a permanent citizen.
The idea of marching in any country demanding anything is pretty arrogant. If I were to march into someone elses country, it would darn well be under their authority and permission and I would be pretty darn humble about asking for rights and privileges. I'd like to see 50K Americans march into Mexico City crying for this and that, what would be the reaction there? Jail time anyone? Here's a link to the CNN article: http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/05/01/imm...sts/index.html

I agree. If I were to move to a different country (which I may actually do some day, family and all) I would enter legally, keep low for a bit, and sure as hell not assault the authorities. If somebody wants to come here, they should take a legal route. We already have a way in open.

And before you write, please think about what you write and the meaning behind it. Imagine yourself being one of those immigrants and try to feel what they feel. Maybe then you'll understand the protests. So.. just let them do what they think they have to do. They also have to cope with the consequenses of their actions, just like you. |

I think most people [excluding you apparently] knew from the context from which I was writing that I don't actually believe that America is "my" Country. I did consider my words before I wrote them and even as I consider them now I see nothing I'd change. I'm supposed to "feel what they feel", what does that mean exactly? What are they "feeling" in your opinion? I think they are having trouble coping with the consequences of their actions, hence the protests and marches. Immigrants are not treated bad in America...if they were they wouldn't be risking their lives to get here. There is a process to become an American citizen, I personally believe it must be followed. Is it efficient and an easy process to go through, not sure that's the case all the time, but that doesn't change the fact that the process must be respected and obeyed. I find it absurd that some of these folks are upset that illegals get deported...they're not shot, they're not mugged, they're just sent back to where they came.

Another thing that kind of gets me is when immigrants demand their right to be American, but wave the flag of another country. Its a minor thing, but I think it sends the wrong message.

My grandparents came to the US from Italy, and they had no problems coming here, behaving themselves (ie, not throwing things at the police), they got their citizenship and built a life for themselves and their family. Why do immigrants today need to be violent to get their message across?

Do you think it has something to do with the new American value of entitlement and instant gratification? Those are two concepts that ought to be taken out back and shot. Twice.
