Is there an universal moral code that applies to everyone? If so, what is it? If not, why not?

There can never be such a thing as the Universe is entirely subjective. Every person is differnt and their minds work differently from each other. There are some things that are agreed upon as imoral by the majority of people (like murder, rape etc) but even this is dependant on religion, social class and culture. I wouldn't expect everyone to have the same morals as me, but i expect most people to share some of my morals. Morals are a personal thing, based on the person and the situation, neither of these two things can be replacated.

If all Humans have the desire to keep the Human race alive, the only morals that are required are ones that sustain the Human race. Everything else is subjective.

The only moral code that seems common (in theory) to just about every religion, include secularism, is some form of the Golden Rule.

There is not. Morality doesn't impose itself on us. Morality is something man made that we apply to ourselves and others. There might be cultures where it is immoral to eat meat, or have pre-marital sex, or marry outside of your religion, and there may be those individuals might wish that all people could follow the same morals as they do, but in reality it just doesn't work that way. There may be some morals that are very very common, but there will always be exceptions.

Yes. The universal moral code is based upon the universal unalienable rights (the rights to life, liberty, and property). If one does not respect those rights, they are being immoral.

No. Morality is a human construct. There is not even an earthly moral code applicable to everyone. There's this pesky thing called culture getting in the way.

I think it's a human construct but I think that it's a human construct that is applicable to everyone. i don't see the two as being mutually exclusive.

Friend Sunstone,
The question is coming from the mind. One will say all questions comes from the mind; True. If one understands that our goal is basically to still the mind then no such questions come as when one has stilled the mind the bahaviour itself is in tune with nature. It automatically follows the laws of nature and there everything is perfect as creation itself. Missed the point? Till the mind is leading the way humans will form countries, governments, laws etc. etc. In nature every being are the same stuff. Being is a flow there are no edges it just merges with the surroundings. Love & rgds |
