Why does gold have value?
Why does gold have value? It is a mineral from the earth, but I do admit that it is pretty and has alot of great quality's. But why do men die for it? As I type there is a program on the History Channel about Fort Knox and all the gold there. Extreme security. But it has been that way for centuries. You cant eat it, it want cloth you or keep you warm. It is definitly not intended for building tools or making swords. What is the deal?

I really don't know why it has value, I like silver more. Gold is ugly compared to silver or platinum!

There's a variety of historical reasons, the main one being that gold existed at both ends of the world's historic trade routes and it provided a reasonable international currency.
