I'll share the same answer I did there.

You have a new prophet, new information from God, and a new faith. That Islam is viewed as a completely different faith than Christianity is happenstance. Islam is closer to Christianity than some Christian sects in terms of beliefs.

It's the same, in my opinion, as the LDS Church - new prophet, new information from God, and a new faith. That it's viewed as a sect of Christianity is, again, happenstance. It could just as easily be viewed as a completely different religion - and judging by the turmoil on this thread you guys often put up with, it seems it sometimes is.

In a vague sense, yes - but if they're different enough to condemn to hell other Christians, I'm uncomfortable considering them part of the same general faith.

My understanding is that Islam is not a "new" religion... it is the completion... the final stage of God's message to us. Abraham/Moses/the Old Testament was the first, then came Jesus and the NT, then the final prophet of God with the "perfected" message in the Koran was last.

In essense, it's not a new religion at all... but a (in their minds) logical progression of God's message to His people. Islam does not "stand on its own" but has at its core the Jewish and Christian faiths and they believe you can't understand Islam correctly without the context of knowing about Judaism and Christianity.

You surprise me sometimes. It's a very accurate representation of the Muslim view of Islam.

Well, obviously he didn't know what he was talking about because being a good Christian means you actually accept Jesus Christ as the Son of God and Savior of all - not as another in a string of prophets.

Jeez... there are about ten threads right now with LDS members complaining about this same behavior directed at them... being told they don't worship Christ "correctly".... ya'll should practice what you preach.
