What Causes Poverty?
What causes poverty? Why are some nations and regions of the world poorer than others? Why are some people impoverished and others quite wealthy?
What causes wealth?

Mostly, it's bad luck. Most poor people are born poor, and stay that way because they don't have the opportunities, resources, or support needed to break out of poverty. Most people who are wealthy were either born wealthy, or they were born into conditions that provided them with opportunities, resources and the support needed to become wealthy.
Wealthy people hate to admit that their wealth is mostly the product luck, however. They naturally want to believe that it's due to their superior intelligence, creativity, and hard work. Last edited by PureX; 11-20-2006 at 05:09 PM.

It depends on many factors. We can make general statements, but the situation on the ground is different wherever you go.
Why is a Bosnian living in poverty? - Because they come from a rural family - Because they have no political or corporate connections - Because all the men in the family were killed - Because a child is attending university internationally Why is a Croatian family living in poverty? - Because they're not Roman Catholic - Because they live in central Dalmatia - Because foriegn businessmen buying summer homes in their community has made property taxes so high they've been pushed below the poverty line

In a free country with the strongest economy in the history of the world, I'd say the major cause of poverty here is behavior / crime.

What causes wealth?
Power What causes poverty? Lack of power. Some are born into it and exercise power by virtue of the wealth and goodwill accumulated by the will to power of their ancestors. Some are born with none and obtain power for themselves by force of will. Some don't want any. They are the most powerful of them all.
