Federal Television, a Sarajevo-based news and entertainment network serving the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is one of many television stations in the country that have come under fire for unfair hiring practices.
Anti-discrimination laws in Bosnia and Herzegovina have forced the network to hire an equivalent number non-Muslims as compared to Muslims for on-air positions. This means if 4 Muslims work at the station in positions that require them to appear on television, four others must be given similar positions - be they Roman Catholic, Orthodox Christian, Jewish or whatever else. Take a look at what Federal Television did. Muslim on-air staff: ![]() Non-Muslim on-air staff: ![]() Is this a form of prejudice? I would like to think it's very obvious that the Christians hired by Federal Television are not nearly as physically attractive as Muslims hired by the network, so that brings up several questions. If there is prejudice, against whom? Is it against the Christians, who are portrayed this way on television? Or is it against the Muslims who must be rather good looking to be hired? Are both forms of prejudice? Or perhaps, it's just a coincidence and no deliberate effort went into this at all... lol. What are your views?

In America, we'd call this Affirmative Action on steroids. I don't even think we have laws regulating that for every white person there must be an exact and opposite minority. |

Djamala there must be some reason why the non-Muslim staff are obviously less attractive. If it is indeed prejudice on behalf of Federal Television that prejudice may or may not be deliberate. I would suspect deliberate because a television network is likely to be very aware of the apparent attractiveness of the people they put in front of their cameras, and yes it would go both ways.
How interesting.

I'm getting the impression that Bosnians are obsessed with outward appearance.

It could be argued that equal opportunities are a form of discrimination; but that is the 'fairest' way, as far as anyone knows.

This is why i prefer a system of allowing descrimination, but requiring public notification of the descrimination.
