A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject.
~Sir Winston Churchill Was Churchill right about fanatics? Is this a useful description of fanatics? Is there a better description?

Fanatics do what they know God would do if God had all the facts.

I agree 100% and have personally found this statement to be true on more than one occasion.

This is my republican prejudice shining through but I find it difficult to agree with anything that someone whose name is prefaced with 'sir' says. Especially if the sir is followed with Winston Churchill.
Churchill was fanatical. Fanatical for power. He was an opportunist whose love was for the British Empire. He could change his mind if circumstances required it hence the conservative became a liberal. He had no respect for human life as evidenced by the wanton destruction of German cities and the murder of their populations as in Dresden. Yahh, he knew about fanatics alright. |

I think this sums up his attitude:-
"Even as late as 1947, Churchill opposed Indian independence. When Lord Irwin urged him to bring his views on India up-to-date by talking to some Indians Churchill replied "I am quite satisfied with my views on India, and I don't want them disturbed by any bloody Indians." So much for democracy. |
