Mike Gallager, a bimbo talk show host on the Salem Network, recently cut a deal with Fred Phelps' Westboro Baptist Church. The folks at Wesboro were going to protest at the funeral of the Amish kids murdered last week. Gallager heard about that and bribed the Westboro folks not to protest by giving them an hour of time on his nationally syndicated radio program, thus allowing them to reach millions of people with their message of "God hates fags", and "The Amish are going to hell", etc. etc.
Should the bimbo talk show host have done this? Did he cut a good deal or a lousy deal with the Westboro folks? Is he really guilty of appeasement of the Westboro folks?

This is appeasement. They are only going to hold more funerals for ransom in the future because of this. Phelps and his kin are disgusting excuses for humans... spewing forth nothing but evil and hate. I know many disagree with me, but I believe the right for the survivors to lay their beloved children to rest without added emotional and psychological trauma trumps the WBCs right to free speech. Let them protest to their heart's content at another location and/or time, and let the families grieve in peace.

I think it was very nice gift for the bimbo talk show host to give those families.
And quite fortuntatly, those families would not have to hear anything Phelps said on the radio show. There are some things to be said in favor of cutting yourself off from the world, I guess. |

I say, the more people exposed to his hate, the stronger the outrage (hopefully).

He cut a lousy deal with the Westboro Baptist Church (actually they're really just the Phelps family, most of the members are related). Any air time is an opportunity to spread their message of hate.
I have heard Fred Phelps and his daughter speak on tv and radio numerous times. Each time it is the same stale message of a God of vengence. A God who will destroy all that don't believe as they do. Their Christianity is lacking the love and compassion that was the hallmark of Jesus' own ministry. They disgust me as does Mike Gallagher (who is the lowest rung on the Conservative talk show host ladder).
