As i'm sure most people know about the threat to blow several UK planes to kingdom come has been foiled...i was wondering,
How do you feel about plane travel now? Today and tomorrow maybe next week will be the safest time time to travel IMO,what about after that? We risk our lives every day just by stepping out of the house...but is this one risk to far? If we choose not to travel are we giving in to the terrorists,or just keeping ourselves and families safe?

I'm not sure. I don't have to travel by plane.
Several of my friends and colleagues are experiencing delays, and I'm not worried about them. We're not giving into terrorism until we stop fighting them and negotiate.

Mathematically, the risk of being killed in a plane by terrorists is so very, very, very low that it doesn't concern me too much.
Having said that, a couple of times lately I've been a bit worried about taking the Metro here in DC, so I've driven to work instead. Irrational, I guess, but hey. Anyway, these terrorists are ankle biters. There's not much damage they can really do except making people afraid. It's corny, but if we're scared, the terrorists win, so I'd rather thumb my nose at them and carry on as I normally do.

I am a travel agent(in the US) so far (knock on wood) I have not had a flood of people calling today to cancel. As Capt Haddock says--despite the terrorist acts, 9/11, crashes etc. you are still safer on an airlplane that driving your car to the corner store.
I don't know about the corny part--it seems to me on of the best things we can do is just keep living our lives--in my mind the moment you change something out of concern or fear--you have given the terrorists what they want. When I am tempted to change something--I think about London during WWII and the Blitz--or in the 1970's and 80's when the IRA was blowing things up. People just tried to get on with thier lives--I think that is what we need to do as well--I kinda view it as thumbing my nose at them(the terrorists).

I used to live in Virginia when the sniper was still terrorizing the area. I would make a point to sit on the bench at the gas station and drink a soda because I wanted to show that I wasn't going to be bullied into changing my habits by a couple of cowards. People would ask the attendants to pump their gas so they wouldn't get shot. The attendants were not exactly tickled with that attitude...
Anyway, yes I will continue to fly if the need arises. I will not be bullied into changing my behavior. |

I recently flew cross-country with my daughter and the only reason I would loathe to do it again is because it was a miserable experience, not for fear of terrorists.
