Many people talk often about the problem of Racism most talk rarely about a solution.
http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/news.php?i=1153 Is this racist? I think to be part of the solution you have to say no. What do you think the solution is?

well the link is only showing half the adverts isnt it, so the link itself is falsely giving a racist impression ,you have to see all the adverts to get the real feel of it

I disagree... showing a white person next to a black person for effect is not racist. It's art. What damage is it causing? What message is it sending?
Racism is PREJUDGING a person based solely on their race. This does not mean that we can't expect all blacks to have naturally kinky hair. It does mean that we don't stereotype all blacks as being ne'erdo wells; popping out babies and smoking weed until they get the welfare payment so they can afford to buy crack. If you don't fall in love with someone from a different background you are not racist. If you resent those who have, then you are.

I agree with you NetDoc and i think that people thought this advertisment is sort of Racism because they are so sensetive about the Black/White issue in America for instance.
Nevertheless, the way they showed how a white woman is crushing a black one imply a weirdo thoughts about it a little bit. They should make it somthing more acceptable. You noticed guys they used an old another's company advertisment. ![]()

I agree with all those who have spoken above. The image is indeed art, but I think it's also intended to shock- and maybe even intended to challenge people's preconceptions. We were all a bit unsure of how to react when we saw it- but Sony were obviously confident they'd get away with it. They know that once everyone has thought about it, thought about why they may have had a problem on first glance, there really isn't an issue here. That's why it's such a good ad campaign, after all, we're all talking about it, and most people seem to have concluded that it's okay.
As has been said, I think a huge breakthrough in combatting racism would be made if people just stopped claiming it was there. Positive discrimination doesn't work- it highlights the issue and creates tension when people have been discriminated against. No one wants to get a job because of the colour of their skin, they want to get it because they deserved it. Racism does exist, but I don't think it's nearly as prevalent as some people would claim. |
