I wasn't sure if this should go in 'political' or in 'religious' debates, so I just but it in 'general'.
After just watching "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno", something that Ann Coulter (who was a guest) said struck me. She noted that more people seemed to be fussed over a chapter in her book in which she.... er.... had words about the 9/11 widows than the title of the book itself, calling liberals "godless". I guess I'm just puzzled over why she thinks that's more upsetting than the other. Has my liberalism really gotten to me, or is that really more offensive than attacking people for such things?

Don't know her or her book . But I assume that she meant it as an insult to get a reaction ?
The thing about insults is that how well they work depends upon who is saying them , and to whom they are directed . For excample , calling someone an animal may be intended as an insult , but it is lost on a person who considers themself an animal ... And also losses much of it's effect if the person saying it is considered more of an animal then those they are refering to . As for being " godless " ... it reminds me of a quote from the 2004 movie " King Authur ". The knights are told that " It is God's will ". and one of them spin around and shouts " Not my God ! ". ![]()

Well, in part it's because it's easier to accept an attack on a large political group than a rather nasty personal attack on a small group of people who've suffered a tragedy. I dunno know, though. Just about anything Ann Coulter says upsets me.

Anything's insulting if it demeans your own p.o.v. It's what makes for good comedy.
I'd say grow a thicker skin, but she's probably a Bush supporter and I wish them as much pain as his administration has inflicted on the rest of the world. (Sorry Mr. Thighs.)

For me, as an atheist, being called "Godless" is not an insult, it is a statement of fact.

They're conservatives. They can make anything sound like something unpleasant.

i think if it's someone who has a spiritual or religous component to their identity, calling them G-dless would be a serious insult...
otherwise...i don't think so
