You wake up unreasonably early, scorch your back under a weird-smelling showerhead, brush, shave, dry, coffee, dress, drive, work, lunch, more work, and come home to do even more work. If you're lucky, you'll have a few precious hours to kill on the old Internet or watching the telly before you eat. If you have any time left after throwing away most of the pizza because they goofed up the toppings and burned it to a crisp anyway, it's probably spent either watching television or goofing around on the internet. Depending on your mood, you either spend it wondering why there is nothing good on television anymore or find something to get enraged over...if you're a forum mod, more work. What keeps you going through this cycle?

I honestly don't know. And that's exactly why I keep going. This is what I have now, I may as well try and understand it rather than just give it away.

Humor. Life might be a whole lot like a gerbil running on a wheel, but with humor the view constantly changes. Growth. The cycle may stay the same, but I don't. There is rapid growth in change, but there is also growth during the more static periods of life. I can run in circles and still make progress. Experience. This current cycle may not be inherently wonderful, but it is heaven compared to where I've been in the past (and will likely be at some point in the future).

When it comes down to it, being happy and having a meaningful life is a job in itself. It's not something that comes to you. You have to work to make room for it, and you have to work to give yourself reasons for it. You have to hang up your keyboard once in a while and go to see a movie with a few friends so that you can joke and comment about it afterward. You have to dig up good music to play through your headphones. You have to make sure that you always have time for this one nifty thing you do every week. You have to work to get that great job you've always wanted or to open up that business you're so certain will be a benefit to society.
The hardest work of all is getting through hard times. It's a lot of work to keep your spirits up when there is a lot getting you down. You have to force smiles and laughs to keep from bringing your more delicate friends and family down. You have to find just the right person to confide your feelings in, and you have to apply all your wit to finding ways to vent that don't just make things worse. In short, I wake up for one important reason. Quite simply, I keep waking up because there is a lot of work to be done, and it's not going to wait on that "five more minutes." Those many sets of five more minutes do nothing but take away from the nicest part of the morning: sitting in front of the telly to watch those shows that only come on in the early morning. Work isn't always a bad thing, though, and I think that people would be much happier if they realized that. |

My daughter and my husband keep me going. I'm a stay-at-home-mommy so caring for them keeps me going. I never thought I'd be so happy in such a domesticated occupation.

For me, it's the hope that I might someday be a published writer.

I like a cycle. I like it when things are routine and orderly. Occaisionally I get a little burned out, but that's what weekends are for.
