Default 911 effects on nations?

dear friends,
I know that it was too bad and horrified. We do not accept it as muslims.
It killed innocent people.

It also affects me badly. I have bad experince as a result of it.
I was after high school and i was planning to study midecine in an arabic country. I applied and the university accepted me. It was tuesday 911, I was in public library reading some peoms and anatomy books to get myself used to the midecine books.
My dad came and took me and told me the news of 911. He was shocked by it. I know nothing about it at this day just some conflicting news from radio cause our TV was in mentainance. the next day my dad went to consulate of that arabic country to take visa for me to study But, unfortunately, they said next week. and the story begins. next week next week. then, I set in home like housewife. just I needed a little time to become a psyco. I set for on semester, So I lost that year cause the midecine study is on years. If you miss one semester u lose the whole year.
Then, I got scholarship in Engineering in american school. I went to learn english then come back to midecine. But my mind was changed by friends.
eventhough, I felt that I lost my dream to be a physician.

also, many muslim and arabic people loose their jobs and unevirsity scholarship because of it.
Also, Arabic people was defended by the angry people.

I want you guys to share with me your experince of 911 effects on you.

I have a friend who worked in the towers, but fortunately was late that day because he stopped for a bagel. Other than that, I have not been personally affected.

My neighbor has, though. He's Hispanic, and someone mistook for Arabic and he barely escaped a beating. He had to keep his head low for a while.

I heard of a case of 2 schoolgirls who were beaten in the D.C. area shortly after 9/11. Their parents were legal immigrants here from Iran, and they were Baha'is.

Prejudice and rationality obviously have nothing to do with each other.

A very good friend of mine discovered a month ago that his driver's license had been pulled due to the Patriot Act. It turns out someone typed in his hyphenated last name wrong, and the computer spit his name out as a possible terrorist. It took him 3 days of going round to various gov't offices to get it straightened out. He runs his own business, which means he lost 3 days income to some idiotic typo and a supposed effort to keep us "safe."

His wife, my business partner, was headed for a flight to Michigan 2 summers ago, and when one of the TSA agents spotted her Baha'i ring, which has a symbol done in Arabic-script calligraphy, 6 guys pulled her over and surrounded her, in her face, asking all kinds of stupid stuff. This woman looks like your average dumpy middle-aged white broad...not exactly what you'd think of as a terrorist, huh?

I don't mind the gov't trying to keep terrorists from killing people. That's their job. But seriously, folks, at what price?

As for Muslims, I've read the Qu'ran, so I know there's no justification for this sort of thing. If anything, 9/11 was an opportunity for me to share with my neighbors what the Qu'ran really says. They know that as a Baha'i I believe Muhammad is a Prophet, so some of them came and asked me. I never thought I would have to be quoting hadith to my own neighbors, but it did end up that way.

WOW! I think this is one of the best things I have seen in a long time!!!

I know so many people who say they were unaffected/uneffected by 911. I know at least twice that amount who don't wish to talk about it at all! It is a very touchy subject, for it has changed many people. aboody, I am sorry for all those that are responsible have cost you. Booko, it did effect you as you have stories to tell about it by those you love. to both of you. Only through understanding and common feelings of loss can we truly get past a thing such as 911. Maybe a bit long, but here are my PERSONAL expiriences with 911:

When it happened, I was living in the Montana. I was the manager for a major freight company that depends on air travel (still am right now). I was awakened by a phone call to turn on the news. It was very early when the first plane struck in our time zone. I turned on the news...... I merely watched..... and watched..... and watched.....

When the time came for me to go to work, I did. When I got to the airport, there were only one other in the building we rented out of. It was so, so quiet! I wound up in the pilots lounge. There was Gene, just sitting and watching the TV. I joined him, all planes had been grounded. That is why the airport was quiet. I couldn't leave the TV, nor Gene.... merely watching..... a second plane.... a third plane...... merely watching.... reports of a third plane........ my pager goes off.

I call the number back, it was one of my drivers CALLING ME to find out why I hadn't called to tell them what time the plane would be in!!!!! I looked at the computer clock, it was 20 minutes past my usual time to call my 4 drivers into work. I told him to turn on the TV and that I'd call him back. I called everyone else, but they already knew what was going on and were.... merely watching..........

I made a few calls and found out our plane had been grounded in Bozeman. I called my boss, my boss's boss, and the main station in Billings. I guess (after all) life does go on and we all have a job to do. I called in Chris, one of my drivers. I sent him in a van the 1 1/2 hours to Bozeman to pick up our freight. I called everyone else and told them not to come in till I called them.

When our freight had been recovered and was back, I called the rest of the guys into work...... we tried to run the day as normal as it could be at that point. Alas, the government grounded flights for more than ONE DAY!!!!! We had no deliveries coming in, but people still had stuff to ship. My boss told me to run ONE pick up route per day. I had 4 people working for ME, and he said I SHOULD DO IT- I WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT AND HE COULDN'T AFFORD TO PAY EVERYONE WHEN WE GET PAID OFF THE FREIGHT WE DELIVER AND PICK UP!!!!! (everyone was paid hourly- so I had the choice of 1/2 a paycheck per day with my guys making nothing...... or let them each take a turn till the planes were no longer grounded.........)

Since Chris got the hours of driving to and from Bozeman, I let Alan (the most senior) work the picks the next day. Then Ray........ down my list by who had been there the longest. I earned no pay for 3 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It hurt the finances badly, but not nearly as much as it hurt my 4 guys who lived paycheck to paycheck; moreso than I did. I still owe credit card bills to this day that stem from those days...... When you live paycheck to paycheck, even one day without pay puts you back a ton!!!!!!

REGARDLESS of what I did for my guys, it put them back just as much as me!!!! 1/2 days pay for 4 days........ same boat as me. It was the least I could do! Funny, even now - so many years later, I cry at writing this - BUT NOW I CRY FOR aboody and the friends of Booko, not just those I know and tried to help.......... I can only imagine the emotions of those that lost a loved one due to that day! I look back and feel I lost so little......

Pain and love go hand and hand...... so I type through the tears!!!!! I do hope others will share their expirience of that fateful day- whether personal or not...... whether painful to do so or not.........

To Booko and whoever, I do wish to add: I am very close to getting a job with the TSA. I have met the requirements and passed all the tests they gave me. It is merely a waiting game now, and if I am strong enough to leave the "guys" (and gals) who work for me now. There are 25 people (so many more) now who depend on me and I waiver back and forth as to whether or not I should leave them. Your paragraph on the TSA situation makes me feel even stronger that I should join them.... not to be paranoid and harm the innocent, but to protect more people than I do now including those wrongfully harmed!!!!!!!! If I do go there, I merely hope I can do what I wish and not merely watch..... and watch....... and watch........

I remember when I first heard about the attacks I was sitting in my social studies class (this was when I was in 9th grade). We watched movies alot in the class, so there happened to be a TV in the classroom that day. One of the janitors came in the class to ask if he could have the TV and my teacher said he couldn't (we had to watch Dances With Wolves after all) and asked why he wanted it - to which the janitor responded, "The World Trade Center just blew up."

Then after the janitor left my teacher said, "He's got to be lying. He probably just wants to watch Sports Center." Then my teacher turned on the TV and there was Bush giving a speech from the elementary school.

Then all through the day, most classes we either just watched TV or discussed what was happening. Then around fifth hour I got called to the office.

I was to host a German exchange student and they were to arrive on that day, however the flight the students were on was diverted to Canada, so obviously my exchange student was not able to come into the United States until, I believe, September 15th. I got a very worried e-mail from my exchange partner's mother - she didn't want her daughter in the United States after the "terrorist aggression" on the U.S. Her father however (her parents were devorced) wanted her to stay - hell, he thought three weeks was too short a time to spend here - he wished she could have stayed for three months.

The next few days were spent trying to get a hold of the exchange students stuck in Canada and just watching the news.
