Default Straight Edge vs. "Christian" Straight Edge

In the scene that i surround myself in there is a way of life that people live by, it is called Straight Edge. A brief History: Ian Mackaye started the Straight Edge lifestyle with his song, "Straight Edge" that he wrote for his friend who died from a heroin overdose. Mackaye didnt know the song would start a movement or encourage people to live a clean life.

Now, a good friend of mine, Eva, is in a band called Gather. One of the lyrics in the song is, "Merely Straight Edge not enough, Merely Straight Edge step it up."

I was confused by the lyric, so i asked here the reasons behind it. She told me the lyric is directed to Christians who claim a straight edge lifestyle because of their relegion. She said that their kind of straight edge is not the same as hers or others who claim straight edge because they are not in support of the movement or the commitment.

Just wanted to know if others have heard of this and wanted to discuss.

I only have experience with three other Straight Edge individuals and from my experience the biggest difference would be that Straight Edge has a problem with taking responsibility for their actions where as Christian Straight Edge would have to to take some responsibility due to their religion. I may be way off in my thoughts though.

I kind of understand what you are saying, Straight Edge individuals are claiming because of actions that they do not beleive in, When a Christian Straight Edge claims because of His or Her religion implys them too?
