That is absolutely ridiculous. We are dependent, as a country, on the global economy. Civilian megadeaths and the destabilization of economies and governments around the globe would have an extremely negative effect on the US economy for both the short and long term. It is much more advantageous to let the other countries deal with their own issues and use our weight in global politics to get the absolute best trading privileges.

I agree that world conquest is ridiculous, but that dosen't stop those who want to give it a try every now and then.

Suppose you knew that Bush really does want to be the second Emperor of the United States. He just one day says, "You know that huge debt we have? Well we're not gonna pay see? So you can suck it. Adopt a scorched earth policy. Take what we find (like the Nazis) and add it to the wealth of the motherland.

In other words, would it be better to be the right hand of the devil, or in his path?

What a ridiculous thread! But I like it.

Though the US is the most powerful country in the world, I don't think it's powerful enough to conquer the entire world. I think I would move to Italy. If it seemed like the US would actually succeed, I would have to rejoin them... sorry...

I don't see why the world would be such a bad place if it was united into one state. Of course, I disagree with the means by which such a state would be created, but if all the world was united under one rule (preferably not an emperor, especially not Bush ), then I think it would be a better place.

The "takeover" need not be military. It's much less expensive and troublesome to install colaborationist foreign governments to insure economic domination or at least preferential access. This has been a major focus of US foreign policy for a long time. US hegemony in many Central and South American countries is a good example. The US does not generally resort to direct military intervention unless a government is hesitant to play ball.
