Actually, I have a little different outlook, please let me know if it is unwelcome.
According to the author of the book cited, one of the reasons Southern Christians had no problem enslaving Black Africans, was because of the curse in the Bible asgainst Ham for taking advantage of his drunk father. This curse held basically that the decendents of ham, or Caanan would be enslaved.
Of course, this author leaves out the possibility that, if the decendents of Ham were absolutely proven to be Black Africans, the prophesy in the Bible actually turned out to be correct. THIS IN NO WAY EXCUSES THE SOUTHERN BEHAVIOR IN SLAVE TIMES. Prophecy is Gods revelation of His ultimate plan. If one is a believer in the Bible, Gods ultimate plan for Jesus was to die on the cross. AGAIN, THIS DID NOT EXCUSE THE PEOPLE WHO PUT HIM TO DEATH.
Back to the topic of Black African slavery. If it could be unequivocally proven that the Bible was reffering to Africans when talking about Ham, it could be argued that black slavery in america ended after the civil war (I think most reasonable people would agree that the majority of Black Africans are still enslaved to this day in Africa, whether it be to Government, Civil War, Poverty, or the Diamond Trade mobs). Is that really the case though?
Since the invention of The great society, American politicians have been using these concepts to entice votes from poorest Americans. A quick look at most urban inner cities, would reveal a poor, crime infested, social program dependent, proportionately large black areas, with overwhelming suppport for career Democratic politicians. Now most of these cities have been democratic strongholds for years. Areas like New Orleans, Chicago, East St Louis, St Louis, Baltimore, have heard the same rhetoric for years from these corrupt politicians. Things like "well take care of you", "The government owes you ", "you cant make it cause They wont let you". Has any of this rhetoric improved the lives of black people in the inner city? No.
In fact, most of the social programs have permanently hurt people of color in the inner city. As long as these Democrats can keep the inner cities addicted to government programs, they will always be able to buy their votes, however, these poor citizens will be mired in poverty for their lives. The beauty of the American Dream is any hard working person can make a good life for themselves. With social programs and ideology like welfare, section 8, food stamps, child credits, no choice in schools, affirmative action, comes the lack of motivation to make it on your own, and ultimately a complete lack of accountability for ones self. Because of this, A LARGE PORTION OF AFRICAN AMERICANS ARE STILL HELD IN BONDAGE. The bondage of corrupt local Democrat governments where only the people at the top succeed.
Ultimately then, the question becomes...Are inner city Democrats ok with enslaving blacks because of the Biblical curse? Is the Biblical curse actually litteral prophesy still ringing true today, or is this comparison just as ludicrous as comparing souther slavery with Christian Conservatives?
