I have a problem with learning stuff from a book; I don't know what it is, but I guess I am much better at the "Hands on" approach thatn I am at reading books, and then putting the stuff into practice.
Latest example came out of a silly error on my Computer; for some reason, it won't let me open URL's from inside Outlook - comes up with a 'security warning' and to ask myself (The Administrator) for advice. Foolish computer. On a whim, yesterday, I right clicked on 'show source' on one such link, and pasted it in frontpage, from where, obviously I was able to click on the link. But more than this, I could see how the pafe, and the E-mal (in html) was made up - very interesting, and a lot more educational than following books (For me). Any one else find this ? - not very good at learning theory, but rather get your hands messy going straight in at the deep end ?

If I see how something is done, I can usually understand it better. Like instruction on how to put something together. I make more sense out of the pictures!

My television/VCR is in pieces on my floor because I was reading my father's technical books again. Likewise, when we starting learning about how computers worked in school, I took apart my pc. The only problem is that I tend not to be able to put things back together.
Even better, no matter how many times someone repeats directions to me, or how many times I've been in the car while someone else has driven there, I never really know how to get to some place until I've driven there myself.

When I was about 10, I took our Pong Game apart to see why it wouldn't work, and was so pumped when I found broked leads, soldered them back on, and Pong worked when I put it back together. Yeah for hands-on learning!

As for ruinning a few things in childhood, I guess I was rather slow at learning! I remember buying a beautiful valve radio in a 2nd hand shop when I was about thirteen, got it working, and decided to 'build it into' a bedside table. Of course, everything was fine until I got it into the cabinet, when it stopped working for no apparent reason! ![]()

Gee, I don't have much problem learning something from a book...however, that's only true for certain types of things. When it comes to anything mechanical it wouldn't matter if I read a book, tried to do the procedure, or whatever. I just have no inclination for anything mechanical. However, ask me to cook something or to write or to help solve a relationship problem and I'm fine. I think it all depends on our natural abilites or lack thereof as well as our preferred mode of learning.

It is very well possible that in this new times we live in there could come new technical possibilities in relation to religion. Why not make use of technics in our belief.
The question is: Is God also technical? The answer could be found if techical experiments would be a part of religious phylosofie. To put up such a chart should then need a certain medium. What the dutch call 'de speld in de hooiberg' could just as well be a silver needle. In any case technics could help us understand more about the complexities of religion and media. |

I have the attention span of a sex crazed gnat (in heat) therefore I don't learn well from books UNLESS the author is very good. If the writer gets my attention, no problemo. If it is dull.... may as well forget it.
I do like to get my hand dirty though. I don't think I ever did get around to reading books on HTML or programming for that matter. I just would scan the source code and figure it out. One thing that has helped a lot is not know where my limitations were. Since I didn't know how to do things the "right" way, I was often able to come up with interesting kludges, that just "looked right".
